Begonia Champagne® displays extra large flowers on a cascading plant form. The series now has four colors with introductions of 'Pink Bicolor', 'Salmojn', 'Tangerine' and 'Yellow'. Crop Planning for 72-cell pack: 10- to 14-inch pots @ 3-4 ppp with 12-15 weeks finish. Maximum light are best @ <3000 footcandles to finish. Require long days so they won't form tubers and to achieve adequate plant size. Assimilation lighting should be implemented at the rate of 3.5W/ft2 with total day length of 14-16 hous until end of Mid-April (Week 15 or 16). Temperatures of 65-75 day and 65 nights to finish. An increase of 4 degrees to establish plant is recommended. Keep @ 62 at night to grow plant, reducing to 58F after fully grown. An EC of 0.6 to 0.9 is optimal. Balanced feed of 100-150 ppm N; clean water irrigate to control salt levels for controlled growth and maximum flowering. Part Sun.

Well drained, moist soil with a pH of 6.0-6.5. Feed 100-200 ppm N on constant basis; EC of 0.75 t 1.0 mmhos. B-9 @ 1250 – 2500 for warm low light; warmer regions use Bonzi drench @ 1-3PPM.

QT® Petunias are also excellent components for mixed annual containers and baskets. Grow in 4-10 inch pots with 1 or 3-4 ppp for 4 – 10 weeks. Temperatures of 60-70F day and 50-60F night. A well-drained soil with pH of 5.5-6.2 required. Let soil dry between thorough watering. Don't over water. Constant feed with balanced 200-250 ppm N with extra Fe and/or Mn as needed. B-9 is effective to control stretch during cloudy weather and for toning for improved shelf life.

Swifty® Salvia from GreenFuse has a more compact habit with more flower “candles” than exiting genetics. Crop planning from cell packs: Quart – 2-gallon containers with 1-3 ppp take 6-14 weeks to finish. Use coarse, well-drained soil mix with a pH of 6.0 – 6.5. Water thoroughly and let dry between irrigations. During cloudy weather, let plants wilt slightly to prevent root rot. Use 200-250 ppm N using a balance feed to maintain foliage. Include micro element source, best using a non-Ammonium feed formulation (use Calcium or Potassium Nitrate) to control height. A soft pinch is recommended once established or at transplant. Use moisture control, cool temperatures during forcing, high light and feed rates to control height. Proper light levels will keep plant shorter and hasten flowering.

New from HEM Genetics, Spring Trials 2016: The next generation genetic dwarf petunias are indicated by the characters “GP” which stands for Garden performance. Compared to the first generation genetic dwarf petunias, the GPs perform exactly the same for the greenhouse grower with compact habit for ease of culture without PGRs. The difference in garden performance is noticeable to consumers because they show more growth vigor, resulting in a more robust plant habit with an even better performance in containers, beds, and the landscape. Better branching and reduced leaf development provides better airflow which reduces the risk of disease, especially botrytis. Limbo™ petunias are perfect for high-density pack production, containers and hanging baskets. In addition to three new colors: 'Burgundy', 'Sky Blue' and 'Mid Blue', we have added a new 'Heather's Mix' which was created by Heather-Will Browne at Walt Disney World Horticulture for use in their parks. Because she is well respected for her knowledge of the effective use of color combinations in the landscape, we have named this mixture as a tribute to her.
